Ingredients
  • 8 oz (1 cup) vodka or bourbon (80 proof)
  • 5-6 whole vanilla beans
Chef's tip

The longer the vanilla beans infuse, the stronger and more complex the flavor will be. It can be left to infuse for up to a year.

Instructions
  1. 1

Split each vanilla bean lengthwise, leaving the ends intact.

  2. 2

Place the split vanilla beans into a clean 8-ounce glass bottle or jar.

  3. 3

Pour the vodka or bourbon over the beans until they are completely submerged.

  4. 4

Seal the bottle tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for at least 2 months, shaking it once a week.

  5. 5

The extract is ready when it has developed a deep, dark color and a rich aroma.

  6. 6

You can print custom labels for your bottles to make the gift even more personal.
